Trash Investigation Series

The Trash Investigation Series is a two day celebration of upcycling, recycling, creative reuse and all other design methods that make our planet a cleaner and nicer place to live in. They are co-creation events where we invite professionals, creative groups and students to tackle a particular waste problem and give answers from a design perspective.

With Trashkitchens we showed that kitchens can be made from waste, during Trashcars our participants transformed discarded cars into awesome installations, in Trashboarding temporary habitations were made entirely out of cardboard, while in Redesigned Pop-Up the challenge was to create mobile pop-up installations for the public space made entirely out of waste

We are pleased to announce the 5th edition of the Trash Investigation Series: ReFab Electonics! Edition dedicated to artistic creation from electronic waste. Currently more than 70% of electronic waste is treated in an uncontrolled manner. It is the fastest growing waste in the world, at an annual rate of 5%, as devices have an increasingly shorter life cycle due to planned obsolescence. This is why we are inviting educational and research centres to respond to this problem, designing and building installations and objects from obsolete electrical and electronic devices.

The event will take place between the 6th and 8th of June, 2023 in the Akasha Hub Barcelona space and will be open to the general public during the three days and it will be possible to follow the creative process.

ReFab Electronics is part of the E-Waste Learning Paths project, in collaboration with Maltepe Fan Lisesi and Buinho, co-financed by the Erasmus+ program of the European Commission.

This year we have partnered with AKASHA Hub to host our event! AKASHA Hub is a decentralized project and a self-managed community that was born in 2017 with the mission of creating a diverse community with diverse professional profiles that connects people, projects and agents to generate sustainable ideas, find possibilities for innovation and develop new models of society. at the global level. AKASHA Hub has two halls, one dedicated to thought, ideas, debate and co-working space for its members and the other hall for experimentation and manufacturing. It also has as part of its ecosystems projects that inhabit such as: Nab3 Collective, Domingo Club, Low Tech Magazine, Slow Lab, and three plant communities.
AKASHA Hub has promoted green projects such as Green City Lab and Urban Planting Project, open source such as Open for Future (federated plugins), is an official partner of the Geo-Llum project (art and science) and is working on decentralization projects and DAOs.
AKASHA Hub is self-financing and works collaboratively to create a model of social innovation, of a physical community, with the aim of knowledge transfer and that evolves at the rate of new members, new social changes and new ideas.
